Tagarelli's 30 Points, 20 Rebounds Leads Hawks in Rout

Box Score QUINCY, Ill. – Senior forward Joseph Tagarelli (Waunakee, Wis.) led six QU men's basketball players in double figures with 30 points and 20 rebounds and the Hawks defeated Robert Morris-Springfield going away, 109-56, on Monday (Nov. 21) night at Pepsi Arena.
 
Tagarelli was a dominant force inside with 24 points and 14 rebounds before halftime and finishing the game with just 23 minutes played. He also dished out three assists, had two steals and shot 12-for-20 from the field. His 20 rebounds are the most by a QU player since at least the 2006-07 season.
 
The 53-point margin of victory was the largest for the Hawks since a 104-47 win over St. Louis Christian on Dec. 17, 2013.
 
The Hawks dominated from the start, scoring 20 of the game's first 24 points in the opening 5:08 on a run capped by a basket by senior forward Evan McGaughey (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) off a feed from senior guard Herm Senor II (Springfield, Ill./Southeast).
 
Quincy led by as many as 35 points in the first half, taking a 59-24 lead into the intermission.
 
Sophomore forward Marcus Hinton (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central/Lindenwood) chipped in with 18 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. He also had three steals.
 
McGaughey and redshirt-freshman guard Trevor Meny (Palmyra, Mo.) scored 13 points while senior guard Von Washington III (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central/Western Michigan) and sophomore guard Damon Patterson (Florissant, Mo./Chaminade) added 10 points each.
 
The Hawks shot 57.1 percent (44-for-77) from the field and held the Eagles (0-5) to a 31.7 percent (19-for-60) mark. Quincy had 28 assists on 44 field goals led by Senor's eight dimes in just 18 minutes.
 
The Hawks fly out of Chicago on Tuesday morning for San Juan, Puerto Rico where they will play two games in the Puerto Rico Classic. QU plays Tiffin on Friday (Nov. 25) at 8 a.m. Central and Northwood on Saturday (Nov. 26) at 10 a.m. Central. Both games will air on WGEM Sports Radio ESPN 1440/98.9 FM.
