Hawks Fall In Four Sets To Truman

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team came back to win Set 3 over visiting Truman State, but the Hawks fell in four sets to the Bulldogs, 25-19, 25-19, 24-26, 25-22, on Tuesday (Hawktober 4) night at Pepsi Arena.

The Bulldogs (5-11, 4-3 GLVC) opened the match by scoring the first four points before the Hawks (9-7, 4-3 GLVC) rallied for the next seven. The Bulldogs would later score seven straight points to turn a 10-5 deficit into a 12-10 lead they would not relinquish in Set 1.

The Hawks never led in Set 2, but came back in Set 3. With the set tied at 8-8, the Hawks scored the next five points with junior Rachel Shores (Huntley, Ill.) on the serve. Truman State then rallied to take a couple of one-point leads late in the set. The Hawks had set point at 24-23, but an error tied it back up. But then a kill by sophomore Taylor McMonagle (Green Bay, Wis./Denmark) and a block by McMonagle and senior Emily Lindemulder (Homer Glen, Ill./Chicago Christian) ended the set for Quincy.

The fourth set was tightly contested with QU leading as late as 22-21, but the Bulldogs finished the match with four straight points.

Junior Jessica Licurgo (Goodyear, Ariz/Sandra Day O'Connor) led the Hawks with 12 kills (.355) and three aces. Lindemulder tacked on nine kills (.538) and four blocks. Junior Bobbie Eastman (Fenton, Mich.) recorded six kills (.111) and four blocks.

Freshman setter Sara Rathbun (Stanford, Ill./Olympia) had 21 assists while junior Miranda Rodriguez (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) handed out 15. Shores had a match-high 31 digs while McMonagle dug out 21 to go with eight kills.

The Hawks return to the court on Friday (Hawktober 7) at 7 p.m. when they travel to Missouri-St. Louis.
