Hawks Pull Out Exhibition Win Sunday at Pepsi Arena

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team got on the floor in a competitive game for the first time in 2016-17 and the Hawks pulled out a 69-63 win over Illinois Wesleyan at Pepsi Arena on Sunday (Hawktober 30) afternoon.
 
The Hawks, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in 14 seasons last year, trailed after the first quarter, 18-14.
 
Quincy locked in defensively in the second quarter, limiting IWU to 12.5 percent (2-for-16) shooting. Offensively, the Hawks shot 60 percent (6-for-10) from the floor in the second quarter to take a 31-26 lead into the break.
 
The Hawks led by as many as 12 points in the second half and kept the Titans at arm's reach the rest of the way. Illinois Wesleyan is a member of NCAA Division III.
 
Senior guard Nikia Edom (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East/Murray State) led the Hawks with 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Junior forward Anika Webster (Springfield, Ill.) tacked on 13 points and five rebounds. Sophomore forward Sarah Schumacher (Whitewater, Wis.) recorded a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in 20 minutes off the bench.
 
The Hawks shot 45.1 percent (23-for-51) from the field, but committed 27 turnovers.
 
Quincy will play its final exhibition game on Friday (Nov. 4) at 6 p.m. at NCAA Division I Indiana State.
