Quincy, IL. — The Quincy University women's volleyball team came away with a 3-0 win over the University of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon (Hawktober 29). The Hawks defeated the Greyhounds 25-19, 25-23, 25-21.
The Hawks set the tone early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on two quick kills by senior Kayla Hamilton (O'Fallon, MO./Ft. Zumwalt West). Teams traded scoring until the scoreboard read 13-13. The Hawks would end the first set on a 12-6 run to pick up the first set victory.
The Hawks were forced to battle from behind in the second set. The Greyhounds led 18-13 late in the set, but the Hawks just would not go away. Rachel Shores (Huntley, IL. Huntley) served for four consecutive points to give QU the lead back 24-23. The Greyhounds committed a service error on the final point and the Hawks took 2-0 lead going into the third set.
QU would claim the third set win 25-21 behind multiple kills by seniors Kayla Hamilton and Emily Lindemulder (Homer Glen, IL./Chicago Christian). Lindenmulder recorded six of her 11 kills in the third set. Hamilton provided an empathic ending to senior day as she slammed her ninth kill to end the match.
Sarah Rathbun (Stanford, IL./Olympia) had 40 assists for the Hawks and Rachel Shores had 22 digs. Bekah Raebel (Waterford, WI./Waterford Union) also added 9 kills in the match.
QU honored its five seniors after the match. The senior class included: Kayla Hamilton, Emily Lindenmulder, Jessica Wicinski (Geneva, IL./Geneva), Nicole Allaria (Edwardsville, IL./Edwardsville), and Rachael Binash.
QU is now 15-10 overall, 8-4 in the GLVC. Indianapolis fell to 12-12, 7-6 in the GLVC. The Hawks will finish their season with five road games starting with Wisconsin-Parkside on November 4th.
