Poindexter Scores All Four TDs In 38-28 Defeat at Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Quincy University football team out-gained Truman State, 382-327, but the Hawks turned the ball over three times and were not able to establish the run as the GLVC-leading Bulldogs pulled out a 38-28 win on Saturday (Hawktober 29) night at Stokes Stadium.

Senior wide receiver Eric Poindexter (Newport News, Va./Warwick/Monroe College) caught a school-record four touchdown passes, accounting for all of the Hawks' touchdowns to lead the QU offensively. He had six total catches for 217 receiving yards.

The Bulldogs (7-2, 6-0 GLVC) got on the board in the first quarter before Poindexter caught a five-yard pass from redshirt-sophomore quarterback Robbie Kelley (Rochester, Ill.) to cap a 15-play, 76-yard, eight-minute drive at the end of the first quarter.

TSU answered with its own score before Poindexter caught a 60-yard pass on a post pattern over the middle to tie the game at 14-14.

Truman tacked on a touchdown on its ensuing possession, then took advantage of a late first-half interception with another touchdown, the third by quarterback Jaden Barr.

After the Quincy defense got a stop Poindexter caught a short pass on the sideline, broke an arm tackle and out-ran the Truman defense for a 69-yard score to cut the deficit to 28-21.

The defense came away with another stop at that point, but the offense could not capitalize. Danny Spencer kicked a 25-yard field goal with 14:09 remaining the fourth.

Jordan Salima's 34-yard run stretched the lead to 38-21 before Poindexter's 65-yard haul down the left sideline provided the final margin.

Kelley was 14-for-28 for 311 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. Redshirt-freshman running back Jaylan James (St. Louis, Mo./Miller Career Academy) rushed for 49 yards on 14 carries (3.5 yards per carry).

Sophomore safety Shane Barrett (St. Peters, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East) led the defense with a career-high 14 tackles, including 2.5 for loss.

The Hawks return to QU Stadium next Saturday (Hawktober 29) at 1 p.m. to take on McKendree.
