QUINCY, Ill. — The Quincy University men's soccer team took on Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday (Hawktober 16) in the second game of their weekend road trip. The Hawks were able to complete the weekend sweep with a 3-1 win over the Rangers (5-7-2, 3-7-2 GLVC).
Pete Condol (Mount Carmel, Ill./Mount Carmel) gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on an assist from Connor Sendobry (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) off a Artan Emini (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) corner kick.
The Rangers tried to answer in the 23rd minute on a header from Antonio Gonzalez but Nate Griffin (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) was there to make the save. The Hawks continued with the offensive pressure but we unable to tally another goal in the first half despite seven corner kicks.
UW-Parkside tied the score at 1-1 after a pass behind the Hawks defense was put in the back of the net by Brandon Henderson in the 38th minute. The score would remain tied at 1-1 at the end of the first 45 minutes of play.
Quincy came out fast again in the second half as Chris McArthur (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) tried to regain the lead for the Hawks but was turned away by Rangers goalkeeper Nate Kitchell.
The Hawks maintained the offensive intensity and a foul committed in the box by UW-Parkside allowed for the Hawks leading goal scorer, Taylor Reis (Quincy Ill./Quincy Notre Dame), to try and put his team back on top in the 58th minute. Reis buried his penalty kick in the back of the net for his 9th goal of the year.
Nate Griffin was able to keep the Hawks in front after making another save off a header from Jack Krenzien in the 67th minute.
Taylor Reis would extend the Hawks lead to 3-1 with his 10th goal of the year on an assist from Michael Timmermann (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) with 13 minutes remaining in the game.
The Hawks defense was able to maintain the lead as Nate Griffin made two more saves down the stretch to preserve the 3-1 victory.
Griffin made 5 saves in the match as the Hawks improved to 8-4-2 overall, 6-4-2 in GLVC play. Quincy will be back in the friendly confines of Legends Stadium as they will take on Maryville Friday (Hawktober 21).
