Reis' Brace, Griffin's Shutout Lead Hawks To Win

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team got a pair of goals from senior midfielder Taylor Reis (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame) and junior goalkeeper Nate Griffin (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) and the defense posted a shutout as the Hawks staked a 2-0 road win at Lewis on Friday (Hawktober 14) night in Romeoville, Ill.

The Flyers (3-10, 2-9 GLVC) outshot the Hawks (7-4-2, 5-4-2 GLVC), but Griffin made six saves in his second shutout of the season.

The game was tied at the half after Lewis led in shots, 7-2, at halftime. Quincy finally broke through in the 62nd minute as junior David Geerling (St. Louis, Mo./CBC/SLU) fed Reis, who pounded a long bender into the top corner to give the Hawks the one-goal advantage. Geerling is now tied with Reis for the team lead with four assists.

The senior doubled the Hawks' lead in the 76th minute when junior defender Michael Timmermann (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) sent in a cross and Reis powered his header into the back of the net from 10 yards out. Reis, the reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Year, now has seven goals, and Timmermann picked up his third assist.

The Hawks had more corner kicks, 7-6, and led in shots in the second half, 9-7. Quincy was also whistled for 17 fouls, while the Flyers committed just six.

The Hawks will look for their third straight win on Sunday (Hawktober 16) at noon when they take on UW-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis.
