Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Brendan Bittner

Winning Streak Stopped at Five By Rockhurst

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team was even with Rockhurst through two sets, but the visitors pulled out a 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21 win over QU at Pepsi Arena on Saturday (Hawktober 1) afternoon.

The defeat snapped Quincy's winning streak at five games and vaulted Rockhurst (11-4, 5-1 GLVC) to the top of the jumbled GLVC West standings. Quincy (9-6, 4-2 GLVC) joins Missouri-St. Louis and Drury in a tie for second place in the division.

On Saturday, Quincy was not able to slow down Rockhurst, which hit .225 for the match. Morgan Rietzke led RU with 17 kills (.259) with just two errors.

QU held an 11-2 edge in blocks at the net, led by seven from senior Emily Lindemulder (Homer Glen, Ill./Chicago Christian), who now ranks second on QU's all-time blocks list with 375.

Rockhurst piled up 112 digs to just 84 for Quincy as the back row for the visitors scrambled to force QU to hit .171 for the match. Quincy actually had a 65-64 edge in total points, but the hosts gave away 12 service errors and were just not as efficient offensively.

Sophomore Taylor McMonagle (Green Bay, Wis./Denmark) led Quincy with 15 kills (.200) to go with a team-best 20 digs. Lindemulder was the only other QU player in double figures with 10 kills (.333).

Juniors Jessica Licurgo (Goodyear, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor) and Bobbie Eastman (Fenton, Mich.) had eight kills each and junior Bekah Raebel (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) added seven kills and five blocks. Licurgo tallied four aces.

Junior Rachel Shores (Huntley, Ill.) had 17 digs for Quincy while senior Jessica Wicinski (Geneva, Ill.) and sophomore Marissa Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas/Reagan) added 12 digs each. Freshman Sara Rathbun (Stanford, Ill./Olympia) and junior Miranda Rodriguez (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) shared setting duties with 26 and 15 assists, respectively.

Quincy will finish its six-match homestand on Tuesday (Hawktober 4) at 7 p.m. against Truman State (4-11, 3-3 GLVC) at Pepsi Arena.
