#16 Lady Hawks Lock Down S&T Defensively, 69-56

ROLLA, Mo. - The No. 16 Quincy University women's basketball team bounced back to split the road weekend with a 69-56 win at Missouri S&T on Saturday (Jan. 30). QU hit 10 three-point field goals and forced 20 turnovers. The Lady Hawks converted those turnovers for 23 points. QU was also 11-of-13 from the line.

It was a slow start in the first quarter. S&T (6-12, 2-9 GLVC) led 4-3 at the five minute mark of the first quarter.

The Lady Miners extended their lead to 10-6, when the Lady Hawks (18-2, 9-2 GLVC) got hot from three. Nikia Edom and Megan Wienstroer hit back-to-back triples to take a two-point lead with three minutes to play. Wienstroer got a steal and a layup with two minutes to play and the Lady Hawks took a 14-12 lead headed into the first break.

Nikia Edom opened the second quarter with a three after an S&T turnover. QU built their lead to 30-23 at the half.

The Lady Miners opened the half with a three to pull within four points, but Carly Beebe and Erin Mennemeyer would take over the game for Quincy having a hand in the first 18 points of the half for QU. Beebe had four points and an assist on a Maggie Cunningham three. Mennemeyer notched eight points and an assist on another Cunningham three.

Megan Wienstroer hit her third three with under a minute to play in the third quarter to give the Lady Hawks a 51-39 lead. 

The Lady Miners pulled back to within six points in the fourth quarter. Anika Webster hit a big layup with a foul in the next possession. Webster hit the free throw and the Lady Hawks pushed their lead back to double-digits in the final five minutes to earn the 69-56 win.

QU was well balanced offensively with four players scoring in double figures. Anika Webster led the Lady Hawks with 15 points. Maggie Cunningham notched 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Erin Mennemeyer scored all 12 of her points in the second half. Megan Wienstroer scored 11 points off the bench for the Lady Hawks. Nikia Edom finished with nine points.

The 16th ranked Lady Hawks will continue their road swing on Thursday (Feb. 4) night with a matchup against GLVC East foe, Indianapolis. Tip-off in Indianapolis is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.
