#16 Lady Hawks Fall at #18 Drury, 76-65

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The 16th ranked Quincy University women's basketball team fell to No. 18 Drury University on the road Thursday (Jan. 28) by a score of 76-65. Erin Mennemeyer scored a career-high 29 points for QU, but the Lady Hawks shot 39.7% from the field and 28.6% from three. DU shot 48.2% from the floor led by Annie Armstrong with 23 points.

The Lady Hawks (17-2, 8-2 GLVC) started quickly with back-to-back steals and fast break layups from Kara Gerbus and Nikia Edom. 

The Lady Panthers (15-3, 8-2 GLVC) picked up the pace of play and QU started to wear down by the end of the first quarter. Drury entered the first break with a 21-14 lead. 

The Lady Hawks held Drury scoreless for the first four-and-a-half minutes of the second quarter. Erin Mennemeyer scored seven of QU's eight points to claim a 22-21 lead. 

Later in the second quarter, a Carly Beebe three and a Gerbus jumper on back-to-back possessions gave QU the 29-26 lead. It would be the Lady Hawks' last lead of the night.

The Lady Panthers ended the quarter on a 15-3 run to take a 41-32 lead into the half.

Mennemeyer scored the first seven points for the Lady Hawks in the second half to bring QU within 43-39 of Drury.

The Lady Panthers went on a 13-2 run giving DU their largest lead of the night at 56-41.

The Lady Hawks inched to within five points with just under five minutes to play, but the Lady Panthers hit 9-of-11 free throws in the final five minutes to hold off QU 76-65.

Erin Mennemeyer led all scorers with 29 points. It was the most points scored by a Lady Hawk since Maggie Cunningham tallied 29 against Drury in Pepsi Arena, Jan. 30, 2014. Mennemeyer also grabbed nine rebounds.

Kara Gerbus recorded her second double-double of the season scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Anika Webster came off the bench for nine points. Maggie Cunningham dished out six assists.

The Lady Hawks grabbed 39 rebounds and scored 15 second chance points.

Drury had three players in double figures. Annie Armstrong led the way with 23 points. She was followed by Adrienne Horn off the bench with 11 points. Addy Roller scored 10 points. Drury had 34 points in the paint and 28 points off the bench.

Quincy, Drury, and Truman State are all tied atop the GLVC West Division standings with records of 8-2.

The Lady Hawks travel to Rolla, Mo. on Saturday (Jan. 30) to take on Missouri S&T starting at 1 p.m.
