Hawks Sweep Second Day with Strong Showing

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team was poised to finish strong on the second day of the Grand Valley State Tournament. QU made quick work of the first match against Daemen College in a 3-0 victory. The Hawks fell behind after one set against Ohio Dominican University in the matinee, before coming back in part to the inspired play of Miranda Rodriguez and Gianna Lincoln off the bench. The Hawks turned it around and took the next three sets to win 3-1.

Miranda Rodriguez dished out 36 assists off the bench for the Hawks (2-2) against ODU (2-2). Emily Lindemulder led the way for QU with 12 kills and five blocks.  Jessica Licurgo was a strong presence at the net for QU with 11 kills, a .417 attacking percentage, and six blocks. Gianna Lincoln supplied nine kills. Rachel Shores was all over the court with 31 digs to lead the QU defense.

After falling in the first set 25-20, the Hawks came back to win the second set 25-20. QU hit .022 in the first set. The offense turned it around to hit .235 in the second set. The Hawks finished the win at the net with 22 blocks. The Panthers had 17 blocks.

QU put together a team effort in the first match Saturday against Daemen (1-2). The Hawks posted a 25-13, 25-17, 25-14 line to sweep the match. Gianna Lincoln led the Hawks with nine kills and 13 digs. Rachel Shores had 10 digs in the first match, 14 QU players participated in the match.

The Hawks will travel to Florence, Ala. next weekend (Sept. 11-12) to participate in the North Alabama Tournament. Their first match is against Southern Wesleyan at 10:30 a.m. CT on Sept. 11.
