Hawks Win Two in Louisville

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team rebounded from a five set match yesterday to win a doubleheader in Louisville, Ky. today (Sept. 26). QU started off with a sweep of the host, Bellarmine University (3-0), before defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College for the second time this season (3-1). The Hawks led both matches in attacking percentage.

The Hawks (7-7, 2-2 GLVC) won all three sets against BU (6-7, 1-3 GLVC) by two points. QU hit .197 in the first match.

QU trailed by one, 22-21, in the first set when Gianna Lincoln tied the match with a kill. Bekah Raebel followed with a kill and teamed up with Jessica Licurgo for a block to take a two point lead. After a service error, Bekah Raebel won the set with a kill, 25-23.

The Hawks trailed by as many as six points in the final two sets. In the second set, the Hawks trailed by eight, 23-15. The Hawks converted nine straight points to take a one point lead, 24-23. The Knights tied the match 24-24 and after a bad set by Bellarmine, Bekah Raebel finished another kill to win the set 26-24.

In the final set, QU went down 6-0 early. The Hawks chipped away at the Knights' lead to pull within one two points, 24-22. Stephanie Mizeur sandwiched a Knights' attacking error with two kills to take a 25-24 lead. Gianna Lincoln closed out the match with a kill to sweep BU.

Bekah Raebel and Gianna Lincoln tied for the team lead with eight kills. Jessica Licurgo had seven kills and seven blocks. Rachel Shores had 19 digs.

Against Kentucky Wesleyan (0-10), the Hawks hit .205 in the four set match. It was the Hawks' third match in less than 24 hours. 

Stephanie Mizeur earned her first double-double in her best match of her freshman season. Mizeur led the Hawks with 12 kills and also passed 12 digs. Emily Lindemulder recorded 11 kills and four blocks. Rachel Shores led QU with 22 digs. Miranda Rodriguez had 23 assists in the match.

The Hawks won the first set 25-16 while hitting .345. The Panthers turned the tides in set two hitting .222 and winning the set 25-22. QU regrouped in the third set, and finished the match off with a 25-14 third set win followed by a 25-18 fourth set win.

The Hawks travel to Liberty, Mo. to face William Jewell College on Friday (Oct. 2). The match will start at 7 p.m.
