Rush Leads Hawks to Sweep at William Jewell

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team secured the Friday sweep of William Jewell College, not only in the gym, but on the field as well. The QU men's and women's soccer teams also posted shutouts against WJC to earn a clean sweep of the Cardinals. The Hawks women's volleyball team took care of business, 3-0, on the road in Liberty, Mo.

Senior Rachel Rush led the Hawks (8-7, 3-2 GLVC) with a career-high 12 kills and a .455 hitting percentage. Rush earned the 25th and final point of all three sets for the Hawks in the 3-0 sweep of the Cardinals (4-10, 0-5 GLVC)

The Hawks and Cardinals traded runs in the first set and head coach Bob Crank took a timeout with the score tied 22-22. Out of the timeout, Bekah Raebel knocked home a kill. After a bad set by WJC, Rachel Rush finished the set with a kill, 25-22.

The Hawks went up 24-17 in the second set, but the Cardinals inched back to 24-21 forcing a QU timeout. Rachel Rush came out of the timeout to close the second set with another kill.

It was all Hawks in the third and final set. Rachel Rush closed out the set and the match at 25-19 with her 12th kill of the match. 

Bekah Raebel chipped in with eight kills. Taylor McMonagle finished with seven kills for the Hawks. Rachel Shores led the team with 23 digs. Cassandra Cahill set 17 assists.

The Hawks travel to Kansas City, Mo. tomorrow (Oct. 3) to play No. 10 Rockhurst University at 3 p.m.
