Hawks Push Screaming Eagles to Fifth Set

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team pushed the University of Southern Indiana to a fifth set, but could not overcome the USI attackers in a 3-2 match. The Screaming Eagles held a .238 attacking percentage in the match. QU bested the Screaming Eagles in set two and four in which the Hawks claimed both sets.

Quincy (5-7, 1-2 GLVC) was led in kills by Emily Lindemulder with 13. Gianna Lincoln recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs. Bekah Raebel also reached double-digit kills with 11.

The Screaming Eagles (9-2, 2-1 GLVC) were paced by Erica Oberbroeckling with 19 kills and 15 digs. Shelbi Morris had 17 kills and 12 digs followed by Abbey Winter with 16 kills. Shannon Farrell finished with 36 digs.

The Hawks fell in the first set 25-20, but hit .239 in the second set pushing the set to extra points. Gianna Lincoln and Taylor McMonagle recorded back-to-back kills to give the Hawks a 29-27 win.

The Screaming Eagles found their attack again in the third set hitting .400 to win 25-12. 

QU bounced back causing problems at the net for USI. The Hawks had the better hitting percentage at .161 to take the fourth set 27-25 and force a fifth set.

The Screaming Eagles scored seven straight points to take an 11-5 lead. The Hawks pulled within three points twice, but USI won the set 15-10.

Rachel Shores led the Hawks with 21 digs. Jessica Licurgo served four aces. Miranda Rodriguez set 28 assists.

The Hawks travel to Louisville, Ky. to face Bellarmine University tomorrow (Sept. 26) at 12:30 p.m. CT and Kentucky Wesleyan College at 3 p.m. CT.
