Tennis Wins Two Against Truman State

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University tennis teams won both matches against Truman State University on Tuesday (Sept. 22) in a non-conference match. The QU women's team stayed unbeaten in the fall season with a 6-3 win. The QU men won their first match of the fall in a 5-4 nail-biter.

The QU men (1-1) split singles play with TSU (0-3). Patrick Kuhle secured the number one singles match with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Ryan McMillan locked up a big fourth singles win 6-3, 6-3. Chris Bueler won the first set in a 7-6 tiebreaker, and overcame a second set loss (4-6) to win the third set 6-2 and take the number five singles match for the Hawks.

Kuhle and McMillan teamed up to win number one doubles 8-5. Michael Lesko and Wyatt Pauley were locked in a tight number two doubles match at 6-5. Lesko and Pauley played inspired tennis to take the match with two straight games ending on Lesko's serve, 8-5 to claim a Hawks' victory.

The QU women (3-0) won four singles matches against the Bulldogs (1-2). Amy Kuhle locked up a number one singles win with a 6-2, 6-0 showing. Elizabeth Kuenzi topped Marisa Thome in a tight 7-5, 6-4 second singles match. Anna Morrissey claimed the fourth singles match for the Hawks 7-5, 6-3. Morgan McGinnis left the Hawks one win away in doubles play with a 6-1, 6-3 win in number five singles.

Truman State claimed the first doubles match 8-3, but McGinnis and Morrissey secured the QU victory with an 8-3 second doubles match win. Amy Kuhle and Anna Konczak went an extra game to win the number three doubles 9-7.

Both teams travel to Godfrey, Ill. to play Lewis & Clark Community College on Sunday (Sept. 27) at 1 p.m.
