Hawks Fall at Lindenwood 3-1

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team fell to Lindenwood University, 3-1, in St. Charles, Mo. on Tuesday (Sept. 15) night. QU struggled to find a rhythm offensively against the LWU defense. The Lions finished with 94 digs. The Hawks led with 13 blocks, but the Lions countered with 57 kills.

The Lions (7-2) took the first set 25-20. The Hawks (4-5) were held to eight kills and made nine attacking errors in the opening set.

Quincy battled back in set two trailing by as many as six points before tying the game at 22-22. The Hawks took the Lions to extra points where QU finished off LWU 29-27. QU improved offensively in the second set with 12 kills and only five attacking errors.

The Lions made an adjustment in the third set holding the Hawks to 10 kills and eight attacking errors. LWU had their best hitting percentage of the night (.194) in the third set to coincide with their defensive play. Lindenwood took the third set 25-16.

The Hawks once again regrouped in the fourth set, but the Lions were up to the task. Quincy totaled 15 kills and six attacking errors, but the Lions had 16 kills and eight errors. The Lions outlasted the Hawks in another extra point set that ended 29-27 in favor of Lindenwood.

Lindenwood was led by Sarah-Jane Pavlik with 46 assists and 20 digs. Anna Reichert tied for the team lead with 20 digs. Three Lions finished with double-digit kills.

Bekah Raebel led the Hawks with 11 kills. Taylor McMonagle turned in four kills and led the Hawks with 25 digs. Emily Lindemulder had nine kills and eight blocks at the net. Miranda Rodriguez set 21 assists to the QU offense.

The Hawks open Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend with their first match at home against the University of Illinois Springfield on Friday (Sept. 18). First serve is set for 7 p.m. The theme is Pool Party Night. Come dressed for the last days of summer and take part in a costume contest between sets two and three.
