Women's Tennis Ends Season with Win; Men Prepare for GLVC Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Quincy University women's tennis team finished their season with a sweep of the University of Illinois Springfield on Sunday (Apr. 12). The QU men fell in a close match to UIS 5-4 in the dual non-conference match.

The Lady Hawks (14-6) swept the Prairie Stars (7-15) in the final match of the season. Amy Kuhle and Sydney Lynch moved to 21-3 this season and a perfect 5-0 in GLVC matches. Kuhle and Lynch won 8-3 against the Prairie Stars. Gabi Papachrisanthou and Elizabeth Kuenzi won 8-2 to finish the season 14-9 as a pair. Anna Morrissey and Morgan McGinnis swept the third match 8-0 to finish 16-7 this season.

Amy Kuhle won a tight first set 7-6 with a 10-3 tiebreaker. She completed the first singles win with a 6-2 set two win. Kuhle finished the season with a 17-7 record and a 5-0 GLVC record in singles play.

With the second singles win, Sydney Lynch completed her freshman season with a 16-8 record in singles play.

Elizabeth Kuenzi won a pair of 6-1 sets to finish the season with a 16-8 record in the third singles slot and a 4-1 GLVC record.

Michelle Gass finished the season with a singles win in the fourth spot to finish 15-9.

Anna Morrissey swept the fifth singles match to finish with a 13-11 record this season.

Morgan McGinnis completed a sweep of the sixth singles match to end with an 18-5 record.

The Hawks (8-10) fell in a close match to UIS (9-13) 5-4. QU led 4-2 after the first three singles matches before the Prairie Stars won the last three singles matches to win the match.

Ian Hinkamper and Ethan Arns won the first doubles match 8-6. UIS won the third match, but Patrick Kuhle and Ryan McMillan won the second doubles match 8-2 to take the lead after doubles play.

Ian Hinkamper won the first singles match 7-5, 6-1 and Ethan Arns won the third singles match 6-0, 6-2 to take a 4-1 match lead. Cole Buehnerkemper won the first set against Patrick Kuhle 6-3 in the second singles match. Kuhle took the second set 7-5, but Buehnerkemper took set three 6-1.

The Prairie Stars took the next three singles matches to win 5-4.

The Hawks move on to play the University of Indianapolis in the first round of the GLVC Championship Tournament. The match is scheduled for Friday, Apr. 17 at 12 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.
