Tennis Wins End Caps of Weekend

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's and women's tennis teams played a pair of non-conference opponents on Friday and Sunday. QU traveled to Godfrey, Ill. to play Lewis & Clark Community College on Friday (Mar. 27), and Marshall, Mo. to play Missouri Valley College on Sunday (Mar. 29). The Hawks won all four matches sweeping 9-0 for two wins against LC on Friday before the women won 6-3 and the men wona 5-4 thriller on Sunday against MVC.

The QU women (12-3) won two doubles matches on Sunday. Elizabeth Kuenzi and Gabi Papachrisanthou won the second doubles match 8-5 and Anna Morrissey and Morgan McGinnis won the third doubles match 8-2.

Amy Kuhle took the number one singles match 6-2 6-0 for the Hawks over MVC. Michelle Gass won the fourth singles match 6-2 6-1 to improve to 15-5 in singles play this season. Anna Morrissey won a pair of 6-2 sets to win the fifth singles match. Morgan McGinnis won the sixth singles match 6-2, 6-1 to improve her singles record to 17-2.

The QU men (7-7) edged MVC 5-4 with a crucial win from Ethan Arns. Arns lost the first set 6-1, but regrouped to win a competitive second set 7-6. Arns battled through fatigue to win the third singles match with a 6-4 third set win.

Ian Hinkamper and Ethan Arns won the number one doubles match 8-4. Michael Lesko and Wyatt Pauley also won 8-4 in the third doubles match.

Ian Hinkamper improved to 17-3 in singles play this season with a 6-2 6-3 win in the number one singles match. Patrick Kuhle earned a 6-3 6-3 win in the second singles match to total five points and a win for the Hawks.

The men and women welcome St. Francis University to Reservoir Park on Thursday, Apr. 2. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
