QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team pulled off a 63-51 win over Truman State University on Thursday night (Feb. 26) to catapult over TSU in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings and finish as the fifth seed heading into the GLVC Championship Tournament.  As the fifth seed, QU will play host to 12th seeded Saint Joseph's College on Sunday (Mar. 1) at 1 p.m. in the GLVC Tournament First Round.  Tickets will be on sale tomorrow (Feb. 27) in the Athletic Offices at Quincy University from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $7.

The Lady Hawks (15-11, 10-8 GLVC) struggled from the field in the first half shooting 31.3%, but were able to get to the line seven times converting six of those chances.  QU hit 25 of 27 shots from the line in the game shooting 92.6% from the charity stripe against the Bulldogs (16-10, 10-8 GLVC).
The Bulldogs led by as many as five points in the first half, but there were seven ties and nine lead changes in the first period.  The Bulldogs found their success inside in the first half with Michalina Tomczak scoring 10 points.

With three seconds left, Maggie Cunningham sent up a three that was off, but rebounded by Erin Mennemeyer.  With less than a second left trailing by one point, Mennemeyer was fouled in the act of shooting by Michalina Tomczak.  Mennemeyer sank both free throws to send the Lady Hawks to halftime with a 30-29 lead.

The Lady Hawks locked down defensively in the second half switching to a zone and keeping up the full-court press.  Offensively the Lady Hawks continued to drive the paint and went to the line 20 times hitting 19 freebies.  QU was seven of 17 from the field in the second half, but outscored the Bulldogs 34-23.
Mennemeyer shutdown Michalina Tomczak for just four points in the second half.

With 14 minutes and 18 seconds to play, Erin Mennemeyer hit a jumper in the paint to give the Lady Hawks a 36-35 lead.  Anika Webster went to work in the paint scoring the next eight points with six coming at the free-throw line.  Maggie Cunningham stole the ball from Allie Norton with eight minutes and 39 seconds left and converted a layup later in the possession to complete a 12-0 run that gave the Lady Hawks a 46-35 lead.

The Lady Hawks would not let the Bulldogs back into the game.  QU were a perfect 12 of 12 from the free-throw line to finish the game.  Erin Mennemeyer sealed the victory with a pair of charity shots to give QU a 63-51 win.
