Lady Hawks Cruise To Eighth Straight Win

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team cruised to a 77-47 win over Robert Morris-Peoria in nonconference action at Pepsi Arena on Saturday (Dec. 12) afternoon. The win ran the Lady Hawks' winning streak to eight to start the season.
 
The game got the Lady Hawks back into the swing of their season after a week of final exams. They will now resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Monday (Dec. 14) at Truman State.
 
On Saturday, the Lady Hawks (8-0) never trailed after opening the game on a 12-6 run. The final 10 of those points came from senior guard Carly Beebe (Vermont, Ill./South Fulton), who led the Lady Hawks with 13 points in the game.
 
The Lady Hawks led 12-10 before going to center Erin Mennemeyer (Old Monroe, Mo./Troy Buchanan) on four straight trips and the senior converted all four field goal tries to help QU take a 22-17 lead into the second quarter.
 
Forward Anika Webster (Springfield, Ill.) knocked down a 3-pointer to spark a 10-2 run with five of those points coming from the sophomore. QU took a 41-29 lead into the break.
 
The Lady Hawks scored the first 11 points of the second half as they locked down defensively, forcing five straight missed shots and a pair of turnovers. Senior guard Maggie Cunningham (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) capped the run with a layup to give QU a 52-29 lead.
 
The lead grew to 61-34 with 1:53 to play in the quarter after freshman guard Jessie Rabas (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) scored five straight points. QU allowed just five points in the third.
 
Quincy's reserves did a nice job in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Eagles 16-13. Freshman forward Makinze Roman (Bettendorf, Iowa) led the Lady Hawks with seven points and three rebounds in the final stanza.
 
Mennemeyer joined Beebe in double figures with 12 points. Thirteen Lady Hawks knocked down a field goal in the game as they shot 46.6 percent (34-for-73) from the field. QU's bench out-scored the Eagles' reserves, 40-3. All 14 Lady Hawks grabbed at least one rebound.
 
The Lady Hawks recorded 24 assists on 34 made field goals and out-rebounded the RMU-Peoria, 47-29.
 
Karlisa Harris paced the Eagles with 19 points on 8-for-19 shooting. QU turned RMU's 20 turnovers into 25 points.
 
The Lady Hawks return to the floor on Monday (Dec. 14) when they take on Truman State in GLVC action in Kirksville, Mo. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
