New Rules in Effect for Lady Hawks at Missouri State Exhibition

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team took the court against outside competition for the first time since the rule changes took effect for NCAA women's basketball. One of the main rule changes saw the game time change from two 20 minute halves to four 10 minute quarters. QU traveled to Springfield, Mo. for an exhibition against Missouri State University on Sunday (Nov. 8). MSU won the game 73-54.

The Lady Hawks trailed early, but sparked a 3-point flurry under six minutes to go in the first quarter started by Maggie Cunningham. Nikia Edom and Cierra Young hit two more 3-pointers to tie the game at 11.

Anika Webster hit a jumper in the paint when she was fouled. Webster converted the free throw to take a 14-11 lead. 

With under a minute to go, Rachel Swartz hit a jumper to tie the game at 14 and end the first quarter.

Missouri State went on a 12 point run in the second quarter to take a 30-21 lead. Anika Webster hit a jumper and Kara Gerbus sunk two free throws to end the first half trailing 30-25.

The Lady Hawks hit 32.7% from the field and 30.4% from three. The Bears grabbed 46 rebounds while QU finished with 26 boards. 

Anika Webster led the Lady Hawks with 16 points. Webster grabbed four rebounds. Kara Gerbus scored nine points with four rebounds. Nikia Edom scored eight points with a team-leading five boards. Maggie Cunningham finished with eight points. 

The Lady Hawks travel to Columbia, Mo. to play The University of Missouri tomorrow (Nov. 9) at 7 p.m. in a final exhibition tune-up before the Microtel GLVC/GLIAC Challenge at Pepsi Arena.
