Hawks Drop Match to No. 18 Lewis

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team returned home for the first time in almost a month on Friday (Nov. 6) night to play against No. 18 Lewis University. QU came out of the gates with a strong defensive effort to stick with Lewis in the first set. The Flyers were able to settle into an offensive groove and took the match 3-0.

The Hawks (12-15, 6-8 GLVC) went down 4-1 in the first set, but came storming back with a 5-1 run capped off by a thunderous block from Stephanie Mizeur and Jessica Licurgo. QU expanded their lead to 9-6 with kills from Rachel Rush and Emily Lindemulder.

The No. 18 Flyers (24-3, 12-2 GLVC) strung together a four point run to retake the lead. Later in the first set, the Flyers had another four point run to take a 17-14 lead. Lewis went on to take the first set 25-18.

Lewis jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the second set and went on to win 25-14.

The Hawks trailed 20-13 in the third set when QU sparked a 7-3 rally started by a block from Emily Lindemulder and Rachel Rush. The Hawks could not overcome the deficit and fell 25-20 in the third and final set.

QU induced exciting rallies throughout the match led by Rachel Shores with 17 digs and Cassandra Cahill with 11 digs. The Hawks finished with 63 digs. Emily Lindemulder led the Hawks with seven kills. Jessica Licurgo recorded four blocks and five kills.

The Flyers had Aly Schneider , Kelly Brennan, and Elizabeth Hyland all finish with 10 kills a piece. Nicole Yuede finished with 29 digs. Hyland notched a double-double with 10 digs.

The Hawks welcome the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to Pepsi Arena tomorrow (Nov. 7) at 3 p.m.
