Long Rallies End Short of QU Comeback Against Truman

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team continued their impressive display of demeanor on Tuesday (Nov. 10) against Truman State University in Pepsi Arena. QU showed resiliency with comebacks from deficits of four, 10, and seven points. The Hawks fell short in the fourth and fifth set as they were able to tie the sets, but not finish with a win. TSU won the match 3-2.

The match was meant to be a thriller when in the first set the Hawks (12-17, 6-10 GLVC) and Bulldogs (16-12, 9-7 GLVC) traded multiple long rallies. Trailing 11-7, the Hawks scored 10 of 12 points to take a 17-13 lead. Truman answered right back with an 10-3 run to take a 23-20 lead.

The Hawks sprung into the lead with two block assists by Jessica Licurgo and Rachel Rush to end a four point run and take a 24-23 lead. The set went to extra points where the Hawks went on to win 30-28 earning the last three points on an Emily Lindemulder kill and two Truman State attacking errors.

Truman State answered back handily with a 25-12 second set to tie the match at one a piece.

The Hawks jumped out to a 23-16 lead in set three. The Bulldogs scored six straight points to pull within one. After a TSU attack error, Taylor McMonagle ended the set with a kill.

McMonagle led the team with 16 kills and added 27 digs for a double-double.

The Bulldogs looked like they would handle the fourth set much like the second set with a 23-13 lead, but the Hawks came storming back. QU went on to score 10 of the next 11 points with Miranda Rodriguez serving seven times. Trailing 24-23, the Bulldogs escaped with a fourth set win after a QU attacking error.

The Bulldogs got out to a 9-2 lead in the fifth set. The Hawks went on a 9-2 run to tie the final set at 11-11. After the teams traded points, Truman recorded two kills. The Bulldogs would close out the win with a kill from Abby Heise after a kill from Taylor McMonagle to end the set 15-13.

Bekah Raebel finished with 12 kills. Emily Lindemulder notched 10 kills and five blocks to earn her third straight 100 block season. Rachel Shores led QU with 34 digs. Miranda Rodriguez finished with 27 assists and 14 digs for a double-double. Cassandra Cahill had 22 assists and 12 digs for the third QU double-double of the match.
