#14 Lady Hawks Fall in Regular Season Finale, 2-0

QUINCY, Ill. – The No. 14 Quincy University women's soccer dropped its regular season finale on Wednesday (Oct. 28) afternoon to Truman State, 2-0, in Kirksville, Mo.

The Lady Hawks (12-3-3, 9-3-3 GLVC) finish the season in third place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings and await their opponent for the quarterfinal round of the GLVC Tournament. That game will be played at Legends Stadium on Sunday (Nov. 1) afternoon with a time to be announced.

On Wednesday, the Lady Hawks were not able to get their offense untracked against a stingy Truman State defense. Both teams entered the game having allowed just 11 goals in 17 games on the season.

Quincy uncorked eight shots in the first half, but none of them came on target. QU out-shot Truman, 8-3, in the opening 45 minutes and 12-9 for the game. Meanwhile, TSU placed just two shots on frame, but scored both.

The Bulldogs (12-2-4, 11-1-3 GLVC) got on the board midway through the first half as a pass bounced off a QU defender in the box and fell to Alexis Heffernan, who scored her seventh goal of the season.

Truman saw more of the game in the second half, leading in shots, 6-4. Three of QU's strikes came on target, but Katie Mattingly came up with the save each time to preserve the shutout. It was the third time this season the Lady Hawks failed to score.

The hosts put the game away in the 83rd minute as Casey Maloney lifted a long pass for Stephanie Williams, who beat QU sophomore Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) for her fourth goal of the season.

During the game, the NCAA released the Midwest Region women's soccer rankings, which saw the Lady Hawks stay in the No. 3 spot. Grand Valley State held the top spot with Bellarmine, the GLVC regular season champion, occupying the No. 2 spot. Truman, Missouri-St. Louis and Ferris State hold the 4-5-6 spots in the rankings with Ashland as the first team out at No. 7. The GLVC, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament champions will earn automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament.
