Quisenberry's Early Goal Holds Up, QU Shuts Out USI

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team finished up its final weekend road trip of the season on Sunday (Oct. 18) with a sound 1-0 win at Southern Indiana in Evansville.

The Lady Hawks (10-2-3, 7-2-3 GLVC), who earned their 10th win of the season, were never threatened in the game as the visitors out-shot USI, 25-5. It was Quincy's second straight shutout and seventh of the season.

Sophomore Natalie Quisenberry (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) put the Lady Hawks in front in the third minute. Sophomore Bailey Greubel (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) sent in a long throw that senior Ashley Burton (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) flicked on for freshman Abby Pulliam (St. Louis, Mo./Eureka).

Pulliam touched the ball to the center of the box and Quisenberry swung her left boot through it and pounded it inside the far post. It was Quisenberry's second goal of the season. Burton now has a team-high five assists, while Pulliam was credited with her third.

Quincy dominated the ball in the first 45 minutes, out-shooting USI, 14-1, in the first half alone.

The Screaming Eagles (4-8-2, 3-8-1 GLVC) got a bit more involved in Quincy's half in the second half, and all five of its shots were on goal, but sophomore Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) was up to the task. She recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

USI had a chance in the waning seconds, but Swanson saw Olivia Myers' shot all the way off a hurried corner kick, and made the save.

The Lady Hawks held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks in the game.

After back-to-back losses to Rockhurst and Drury, the Lady Hawks have won three straight and are in fourth place in the GLVC standings with three games to go.

The final homestand of the season begins Friday (Oct. 23) at 5 p.m. when QU welcomes McKendree (7-5-3, 6-4-2 GLVC).
