Hawks Sweep Walsh To Cap Mizuno Crossover

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team split the second day of the Mizuno Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover, falling to Malone in straight sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-15) before sweeping Walsh (25-20, 25-16, 25-18) to finish the event with a 1-2 record. The crossover was held at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill.
 
The Hawks (10-12) were efficient offensively against Walsh (6-14), hitting .271 in the match. They trailed Set 1, 19-18, before scoring seven of the last eight points to win 25-20. Senior Gianna Lincoln (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and sophomore Bobbie Eastman (Fenton, Mich.) combined on the block to end the set.
 
QU trailed Set 2, 10-7, but scored six straight points at that point to take a 13-10 lead that it would not give up on the way to a 25-16 victory. QU hit .382 in the set.
 
Quincy used a 9-2 run early in Set 3 to take a commanding 12-6 lead on its way to a 25-18 win.
 
Junior Emily Lindemulder (Homer Glen, Ill./Chicago Christian) was superb for the Hawks, putting down a match-high 13 kills while hitting .667. Her 13 kills tied a season high. She also contributed three service aces and three blocks. Lincoln totaled 11 kills, eight digs and two blocks.
 
Eastman had a team-high five blocks to go with eight kills (.375). Freshman Stephanie Mizeur (Riverton, Ill.) also had eight kills (.077).
 
Sophomore Miranda Rodriguez (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) totaled 40 assists and had eight digs. Sophomore Rachel Shores (Huntley, Ill.) had a match-high 12 digs.
 
The Hawks stumbled against Malone (6-15) in the day's first match at the Great Lakes Center.
 
Lincoln, Mizeur and sophomore Bekah Raebel (Waterford, Wis.) each had six kills, offensively. The Hawks hit .128 while the Pioneers connected at a .318 rate.
 
Rodriguez led dished out 23 assists and Shores led the Hawks with six digs. QU managed just one block in the match.

Veronica Gehring led the Pioneers with nine kills.
 
The Hawks continue their seven-match road trip and resume GLVC play on Friday (Oct. 23) at 7 p.m. when they travel to Drury (14-7, 5-4 GLVC).
