Hawks Fall to Ohio Dominican in First Match of Midwest Regional Crossover

AURORA, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team fell to Ohio Dominican University on Friday (Oct. 16) in their first match of the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament in Aurora, Ill. hosted annually at the Great Lakes Center. QU topped ODU 3-1 earlier in the season, but the Panthers flipped the script on the Hawks in the second meeting. ODU earned a 3-1 win led by Tory Thompson with 17 kills.

Ohio Dominican (10-9) started the match with three straight points to jump in front of QU (9-11). The Hawks trailed the entire first set and fell 25-21 to the Panthers.

The Panthers exploded out to a 16-8 lead in the second set, but the Hawks turned the tides with a strong performance from their blockers at the net. QU finished with 16 total blocks led by Emily Lindemulder who had a hand in nine blocks for QU.

QU pulled to within one point at 24-23, but ODU was able to escape with a victory, 25-23, in the second set.

Despite the second set loss, the Hawks carried their momentum into the third set and took a 15-6 lead that included a run of four blocks and an ace for the Hawks.

QU's net presence was too much for ODU in the third set and the Hawks claimed the 25-16 win.

ODU started to find openings at the net for their attackers in the fourth set. The Panthers held a 21-13 lead when the Hawks scored four straight points. The Panthers regrouped to take the match 25-18.

The Hawks were led by Gianna Lincoln with 13 kills. Lincoln earned a double-double with 10 digs. Emily Lindemulder recorded four solo blocks and five block assists. Lindemulder also finished with nine kills. Rachel Shores led the way with 20 digs.

The Hawks play two matches tomorrow to finish the Midwest Regional Crossover. QU plays Malone at 10 a.m. followed by Walsh at 4 p.m. in Aurora, Ill.
