Lady Hawks Stumble Against No. 21 Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Quincy University women's basketball team had their seven-game winning streak snapped at No. 21 Drury University on Saturday, Jan. 31.  QU stayed within 10 points of DU until late in the game when the Lady Panthers expanded their lead to win 74-55.  Drury shot 45% from the field.  The Lady Hawks struggled to find rhythm offensively shooting 31.6% from the floor.  The QU front court found themselves in foul trouble in the second half which limited the size of the Lady Hawks' five on the court for the last period of play.

The Lady Panthers (16-3, 10-1 GLVC) went on a 10-point run when the game was tied at 10-10.  DU expanded their lead at the 10 minute mark when Annie Armstrong hit a three to take an 11-point lead.

The Lady Hawks (12-7, 7-4 GLVC) found their stroke from behind the three-point line late in the first half.  Carly Bettencourt knocked down a trey with 6 minutes and 31 seconds before the half.  Nikia Edom followed with a three at the five minute and 18 second mark.  Megan Wienstroer hit a three-pointer with two minutes and 28 seconds left in the first half which was the last field goal scored by QU in the first half.

The Lady Panthers answered almost all of the Lady Hawk buckets and took a 40-25 lead into halftime.

Carly Beebe led the way in the first half with eight points for the Lady Hawks.  QU was just 32.1% from the field, but hit 62.5% from three in the first half.  QU lost 10 turnovers while Drury turned the ball over seven times.  The Lady Panthers shot 45.2% from the field in the first half.

The Lady Hawks started the second half with a jumper by Anika Webster, a layup by Maggie Cunningham, and a three by Cunningham all in the first two minutes, but the Lady Panthers answered every time.

QU got the deficit down to 11 points on a Nikia Edom free-throw with seven minutes and 56 seconds to play.   At the six minute and 42 second mark in the second half, Erin Mennemeyer hit a jumper in the paint.  It is the last field goal the Lady Hawks would hit until Anika Webster hit a three-pointer with five seconds left in the game.

The Lady Panthers kept hitting shots and finished the game with a 74-55 win.

Carly Beebe scored 15 points for the Lady Hawks.  QU shot 31.6% from the field and 39.1% from three in the game.  Erin Mennemeyer scored seven points and led QU with seven rebounds.  The Lady Hawks out-rebounded Drury 42-41.  Nikia Edom finished with eight points.  Carly Bettencourt scored six points and dished out a team-high six assists.
