No. 2 Lewis Withstands Lady Hawks Halftime Lead

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team led No. 2 Lewis University at halftime 45-40.  QU led for 10 minutes and 27 seconds in the first half.  Lewis came out of the half a different team.  The Flyers grabbed 27 rebounds in the second half and limited the Lady Hawks to 13 boards.  Lewis came away with the road win, 88-72, in Pepsi Arena on Friday night (Jan. 2).

The Flyers (12-0, 2-0 GLVC) took an early 12-4 lead in the first five minutes.  The Lady Hawks (5-5, 0-2 GLVC) went on an 11-point run to take a 15-12 lead.

Carly Bettencourt provided a spark for the Lady Hawks in the first half.  Bettencourt knocked down six of six from the field for 14 points in 17 minutes of play in the first period.  Bettencourt also had four rebounds and two assists.  

Bettencourt hit a three-pointer with three minutes and 49 seconds to play in the first half to give the Lady Hawks a 38-33 lead.  

Erin Mennemeyer grabbed seven rebounds in the first half and scored four points including a layup to give the Lady Hawks their largest lead at seven points.

The Lady Hawks headed into halftime shooting 44.7% from the field and 45.5% from three.  QU out-rebounded Lewis 25-19 in the first half with nine offensive boards.

Lewis shot 42.9% in the first half and 30% from beyond the arc.  The Flyers scored 20 points in the paint.

The Flyers scored on their first three shots of the second half to make a seven-point run and take a 47-45 lead.  The Lady Hawks would tie the game three times in the next five minutes, but never reclaim the lead.

Quincy's three-point shooting went cold in the second half.  The Lady Hawks hit one of nine from distance and shot 31% from the floor in the second half.  QU was limited to 13 rebounds in the second half.

The Flyers converted 46.9% of their shots in the second half and grabbed 27 rebounds including eight offensive boards.  

Lewis led by as many as 20 points in the second half before finishing with a, 88-72, win.

Lewis finished with 46 rebounds including 15 on the offensive glass.  The Flyers shot 44.8% from the field.  Mariyah Brawner-Henley recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds.  Jess Reinhart also recorded a double-double for the Flyers with 12 points and 15 rebounds.  Reinhart grabbed seven offensive boards.  The GLVC-leading scorer, Jamie Johnson, netted 19 points.

The Lady Hawks grabbed 38 rebounds with Erin Mennemeyer leading the way with her first double-double of her career.  The junior finished with 10 points and 10 boards off the bench.  Carly Bettencourt led the Lady Hawks with 19 points.  Bettencourt finished with six rebounds and four assists.  Anika Webster made her first career start and scored 10 points with six rebounds in 23 minutes of play.

The Lady Hawks welcome the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to Pepsi Arena on Sunday (Jan. 4).  Tip-off for the GLVC matchup is scheduled for 1 p.m.
