Hawks Take Third Set, Fall to UMSL 3-1

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team won the third set against the University of Missouri-St. Louis, but fell to UMSL 3-1 in the match on Saturday (Sept. 27) afternoon.  QU had a .256 hitting percentage in the third set, but finished with a .183 attacking percentage in the match.  The Tritons hit .199 in the match with a high of .458 in the second set.  

The Hawks (2-11, 0-6 GLVC) jumped out to a 24-18 lead in the first set against the Tritons (7-4, 4-2 GLVC).  UMSL responded with eight straight points, including four kills from Carly Ochs, to storm back for the 26-24 win.

The Tritons carried that momentum into the second set where they won 25-13 to take a 2-0 match lead.

QU fell behind 12-10 in the third set, but this time the Hawks made a run.  QU scored eight straight points to take an 18-12 lead.  The Hawks would finish the set with a 25-20 win.

The fourth set saw the Hawks take an early 5-2 lead before the Tritons rattled off two four-point runs split up by a Kayla Hamilton kill.  The Tritons spread the lead to 20-12 and finished the set with a 25-19 win to clinch a 3-1 match victory.

Kayla Hamilton led the Hawks with 13 kills on 29 attacks.  Emily Lindemulder hit .500 with 11 kills and a team-high four blocks.  Miranda Rodriguez had 21 assists and 12 digs to lead the team.

Carly Ochs led the Tritons with 21 kills and hit .450 in the match.

The Hawks host Rockhurst University in their next contest.  The match will be played at 7:00 p.m. in Pepsi Arena.  The theme of the night is pool party and there will be a best dressed competition between the second and third set.
