Hawks Drop Match, 3-1, to Maryville

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team lost to Maryville University 3-1 on Friday (Sept. 26) night. ,QU took set one 25-21, but MU made some adjustments and won three straight sets to win the match. ,The Saint had 70 digs and hit .302 in the match. ,The Hawks hit .209 with 56 digs.

The Hawks (2-10, 0-5 GLVC) came out of the gates strong in St. Louis taking an 11-6 lead early in the first set. ,The Saints (5-5, 2-3 GLVC) scored five straight points to tie the set at 11-all. ,The match stayed tight until the Hawks took three straight points to pull ahead 23-20. ,MU scored once, but QU got the ball back with a service error and Jessica Licurgo recorded a kill to win the set 25-21.

The Saints adjusted their attack in the second set and pulled ahead 13-3. ,They went on to win the set 25-13 to even the match.

The Hawks hit .375 in the first set and just .065 in the second set. ,The Saints hit .250 in the first set and had a .316 attacking percentage in the second set.

The third set stayed within two points for most of the contest. ,The Hawks hit .250 in the third set compared to the Saints .361 hitting percentage. ,The Saints pulled away with three straight points to take a three-point lead at 21-18. ,Maryville went on to win the set 25-21.

Quincy took an 11-7 lead in the fourth set, but the Saints went on an 11-point run followed by another three-point run to take a 21-12 lead. ,Maryville won the final set 25-16.

"We took it to them early, but we let them back in the match," head coach Bob Crank explained. ,"We have to be able to finish off a team when we are up."

Emily Lindemulder led the Hawks with 12 kills in the match. ,Sommer Holder had 27 digs at libero.

The Hawks travel to the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday (Sept. 27) for a GLVC match starting at 3:00 p.m.
