QUINCY GAME NOTES (.pdf)

HOMECOMING HAWKS: The QU football team opens a season-long three-game homestand on Saturday when it welcomes Haskell Indian Nations University to Flinn Stadium for Homecoming. This will be Quincy's final nonconference game of the season with the GLVC slate starting in full next week with a visit from Indianapolis. The game against Haskell completes a home-and-home series that started in 2011 when QU defeated the Indians, 34-3, in Lawrence, Kan.

RECENT HOMECOMING HISTORY: The Hawks have dropped their last two games on Homecoming weekend, falling to Indianapolis, 35-7, in the first year of GLVC play in 2012. Last season, Truman State defeated the Hawks, 33-0, on Oct. 5. Quincy's last win on Homecoming came on Sept. 17, 2011, when it defeated Concordia (Mich.), 55-7.

LOOK AT LAST WEEK: The Hawks traveled to Jefferson City, Mo. last week to take on Lincoln and were turned away by running back Morris Henderson and the Blue Tigers, 42-13. Henderson scored all six of Lincoln's touchdowns and ran for 145 yards in LU's spread offense. The Hawks were outgained by just 14 yards (367-353), but they only advanced to the red zone once and were 2-for-6 on fourth downs.

LONERGAN CLOSE TO THIRD: Redshirt-junior quarterback Nick Lonergan (Jacksonville, Ill.) surpassed the 4,000-yard career passing mark last week and now has a chance this week to move up to third on Quincy's all-time lists for completions (337 / 14 behind third place), attempts (628 / 6), yards (4,155 / 11) and touchdowns (30 / 2). He is on pace to finish second in the QU record books with a 64.3 completion percentage (54-84).

COACH TO CURE MD: The QU coaching staff is joining forces with the Coach to Cure MD program this week in raising awareness and funds to combat Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The coaching staff will be wearing Coach to Cure MD patches on the sidelines to commemorate the program. The Hawks will also host 14-year-old Dominick Servi and his family on Saturday. Dominick suffers from Duchenne MD and will be with the Hawks for the Hawk Walk at 10:40 a.m., will visit the QU tailgate and serve as an honorary captain at the pregame coin toss. Fans are encouraged to text CURE to 90999 to donate $5 to the Coach to Cure MD program or visit CoachToCureMD.org

POUND THE GROUND: The Hawks had their highest rushing output of the season in last week's game against the Blue Tigers, piling up 166 yards on the ground. Quincy was led by redshirt-freshman Chris Harris (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin), who carried the ball 30 times for 100 yards. Redshirt-junior Sterling Ross (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) averaged 4.8 yards per carry with 58 yards on 12 rushes.

THREE STRAIGHT FOR HARRIS: Harris has now scored a touchdown in his first three collegiate games, becoming the first Hawk to rush for scores in three straight since Jared King did it last season from Sept. 14-28. His one-yard touchdown run capped a 13-play, 75-yard drive on Quincy's first possession of the second half.

DEFENSIVE SCORING: Quincy's other touchdown came in the second quarter that cut Lincoln's lead in half to 14-7. LU quarterback Owen Jordan fumbled the ball deep in his own territory as he dropped back to pass and freshman defensive tackle Mykal Tuiolosega-Siufanua (Sandy, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) fell on it for six points. It was Quincy's first defensive touchdown since Abimbola Osundairo returned a fumble 40 yards against Kentucky Wesleyan on Oct. 19 last season.

BE LIKE IKE: QU senior linebacker Ike Onike (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview) put up his third straight double-digit tackle game with 11 stops against Lincoln. He ranks second in the GLVC with 36 total tackles, four behind William Jewell's Jimmy DeStafano.

SCHOENENBERGER EMERGES: Redshirt-freshman tight end Owen Schoenenberger (Evansville, Wis.) is quickly becoming a favorite target of Lonergan's. He ranks second on the team (behind Kody Wood) in receptions with 11 for 158 yards and a touchdown. The QU coaching staff also raves about Schoenenberger's ability to block on the edge to seal holes for the QU running game.

NEXT UP: The Hawks play host to GLVC opponent Indianapolis next Saturday at 3 p.m. at Flinn Stadium. The Greyhounds (2-1, 1-0 GLVC) have never lost a GLVC game and have won the conference's first two football championships. They will be playing their fourth road game in the season's first five weeks.
