Weekend Recap: Hawks Split Weekend 2-2

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's tennis team finished the Illinois Springfield Tournament with two wins against Lewis & Clark Community College and the University of Illinois Springfield, and one loss against the University of Saint Francis. QU fell to the University of Nebraska at Kearney, 8-1, on Monday. The Hawks topped LCCC, 7-2, on Friday, followed by a, 9-0, loss to Saint Francis. QU rebounded on Saturday with a thrilling, 5-4, win against host team Illinois Springfield.

The duo of Ian Hinkamper and Lane Luhring went 2-2 in doubles play this weekend. Hinkamper and Luhring won a, 8-3, match against Lewis & Clark, and a tight, 9-8, match against Nebraska-Kearney that earned QU (6-6) their lone win of the match on Monday.

Chris Bueler and Cole Anderson combined for two doubles wins this weekend as well. The tandem downed LCCC, 8-3, on Friday, and topped UIS, 8-2, for QU's only doubles win against the Prairie Stars.

Patrick Kuhle and Ethan Arns won their doubles match against Lewis & Clark, 8-0, to complete the doubles sweep.

Cole Anderson and Lane Luhring were the only two Hawks to have two wins in singles play this weekend. Both of their wins came against LCCC and UIS.

Ethan Arns dropped the first set against UIS, 6-2, in what turned out to be the decisive match. The next set was down to the wire with Arns pulling out a, 7-6, win. Into extras they went where Ethan Arns won handily, 10-4, to give QU the, 5-4, win over UIS.

The Hawks will travel to Fulton, Mo. on Thursday, March 20th to play Westminster College. The match is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. CDT.
