Lady Hawks Drop First GLVC Game At Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Quincy University women's basketball team held a 37-31 lead at halftime against Truman State University, before falling to TSU 75-65.  QU shot 55.2% from the field and 50% from three in the first half.  The Lady Hawks totaled six steals and forced eight turnovers before intermission.  QU finished the game shooting 47.5% from the floor.  Truman State out-rebounded the Lady Hawks 31 to 21.  The Bulldogs shot 50.9% from the floor in the game.

The Lady Hawks (3-4, 0-1 GLVC) scored the first six points of the game off the hand of Kara Gerbus.  Gerbus continued by scoring the first 10 points of the game for the Lady Hawks.  

Truman State (5-2, 1-0 GLVC)  knocked down three-straight three-pointers to make it a one point game with 15 minutes left in the first half.

With under five minutes to play, the Bulldogs held a three-point lead.  Maggie Cunningham converted a layup and hit a three to give the Lady Hawks a two-point lead with three and a half minutes left.

Nikia Edom added a fast-break layup after a steal by Anika Webster.  After a Truman State made jumper, Edom buried a three with just over two minutes remaining to take a five-point lead.  

Maggie Cunningham knocked down a last second jumper after a Truman State free throw to give the Lady Hawks a 37-31 lead headed into the locker room.

Kara Gerbus led the way with 10 points for the Lady Hawks.  Maggie Cunningham and Nikia Edom added seven points for QU.  

Maggie Cunningham scored the first two points of the second half to give the Lady Hawks an eight-point lead, their largest lead of the game.

Truman State started a comeback that tied the game with 13 and a half minutes to play.  The Bulldogs went on a pair of six-point runs and eventually took a 12-point lead with 25 seconds left.  

The game ended with the Bulldogs on top, 75-65.

Maggie Cunningham finished the game with 15 points and five assists.  Kara Gerbus added 14 points and led the team with five rebounds.  Nikia Edom scored 11 points.  Tori Kuhn totaled eight points and Carly Bettencourt scored seven points off the bench.  

The Bulldogs had six players reach double-digit scoring.  Allie Norton led the way with 16 points.  Rachel Steinhoff scored 12 points.  Courtney Strait, Ashley Hartwig, Michalina Tomczak, and Allison Wiese each scored 10 points.  

The Lady Hawks will play host to Northwest Missouri State University on Saturday, Dec. 13 in Pepsi Arena.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
