Hawks Fall to Tritons 3-1

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team fell to the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Friday night (Nov. 7) in Pepsi Arena.  QU pressured UMSL in the first and second set before taking the third set.  It was too little too late as the Tritons went on to win the fourth set and take the match.  The Hawks had 10 blocks and hit .145 in the match.  The Tritons hit .172 with six aces and 52 kills.

The Tritons (16-10, 11-6 GLVC) jumped out to an early four point lead in the first set.  The Hawks (10-18, 5-12 GLVC) tied the set at 14-14.  The Tritons answered and pulled away for a 25-20 first set victory.

The Tritons found themselves another early lead in the second set, but the Hawks rallied to tie the match at 7-7.  With five straight points, QU too an 18-12 lead.  The Tritons chipped away until the match was tied at 25-25.  UMSL scored the next two points to steal away the 27-25 second set win.  

The third set was the Hawks' turn to take a commanding lead early.  QU scored five straight points to lead 12-8.  UMSL threatened pulling within one point multiple times in the third set, but the Hawks held off the Tritons for a 25-21 third set win.

The Tritons were able to gather back the momentum and take the fourth set 25-18.

The Hawks were led by Samantha Haegele who recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs.  Miranda Rodriguez posted 23 assists and 19 digs for a double-double as well.  Sommer Holder led the Hawks with 28 digs.  Briann Joslin finished with 11 kills and Bekah Raebel recorded nine kills for the Hawks.

QU will finish the regular season at home on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 3 p.m. against Maryville University in Pepsi Arena.  The Hawks will hold senior day festivities after the match.
