Hawks Open Exhibition Play With Rout of Blackburn

QUINCY, Ill. – Local hoops fans got their first look at the 2014-15 version of the Quincy University men's basketball team on Tuesday (Nov. 4) night at Pepsi Arena. They had to come away impressed with the new-look Hawks.
 
Quincy defeated NCAA Division III Blackburn, 98-62, in an exhibition game that is a prelude to the Hawks' matchup at the University of Illinois on Friday (Nov. 7).
 
Redshirt-sophomore forward Evan McGaughey (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) led the way for the Hawks with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. He was 7-for-9 from the field.
 
Program newcomer Godson Eneogwe (Chicago, Ill./Maine West/Illinois Central College) used his athleticism to put in 14 points and pull down five rebounds, including a highlight-reel putback dunk in the second half. The junior transfer was 6-for-9 from the floor and knocked down both of his 3-point attempts.
 
Junior forward Dalton Hoover (Pittsfield, Ill.) was perfect on four field goals and finished with 12 points and five boards. Junior transfer guard Thomas Jackson (Louisville, Ky./Jeffersontown/Cincinnati State) had 10 points to go with three assists. Senior center Josh Schaben (Defiance, Iowa/Harlan/Iowa Lakes CC) chipped in nine points.
 
The Hawks shot 60.9 percent (39-for-64) from the field while holding Blackburn to 37.5 percent (24-for-64) shooting. Quincy hammered the Beavers on the glass, 50-22, including a 27-6 edge in the first half, which the Hawks won 61-28.
 
Quincy also had 24 assists on 39 total field goals with nine players totaling multiple assists.
 
Chris J. Davis led the Beavers with 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting.
 
The Hawks will play one final preseason exhibition at the State Farm Center in Champaign on Friday (Nov. 7) at 7 p.m.
