QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team jumped out to a 21-point lead in the first half and led 43-26 at halftime at Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. on Monday (Nov. 24) night, but the Jennies climbed back in the second half and stole a 73-65 win in overtime against the Lady Hawks.

The Lady Hawks (2-2) trailed, 9-8, in the early minutes before exploding from long range on a 17-0 run that spanned over four minutes to give QU a 25-9 lead. Quincy hit five 3-pointers in that stretch, including three from sophomore guard Nikia Edom (Romeoville, Ill./Murray State).

Quincy pushed its lead to 21 points, 38-17, with 3:40 left in the first half on Edom's fourth 3-pointer of the game. The Lady Hawks took a 17-point lead into halftime after shooting 60.9 percent (17-for-28) from the field and 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) from 3-point range in the game's first 20 minutes.

Unfortunately, the Lady Hawks' hot shooting did not carry over after the intermission as the Jennies (3-1) quickly cut QU's lead down to 48-41 with 14:34 left in regulation. QU shot just 25 percent (7-for-28), including a 1-for-10 mark from 3-point range in the second half and overtime.

Edom made a layup to stretch the lead back to nine points before both teams went on a prolonged scoring drought. Neither team scored for more than four minutes as the Lady Hawks made it a double-digit lead again on two free throws by senior guard Carly Bettencourt (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Butler CC) with 9:26 to play.

The Jennies then went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead down to 52-50 with 7:22 left before junior guard Maggie Cunningham (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) scored three straight points to put the lead back to five.

Central Missouri tied the game on multiple occasions in the final minutes of regulation. Justine Prairie Chief split a pair of free throws with 37 seconds left to tie the game at 61-61. After a QU timeout, freshman forward Anika Webster (Springfield, Ill.) collected her own miss and put back a layup with 10 seconds to play and give the Lady Hawks a 63-61 lead.

Coming out of a timeout, Prairie Chief drew a foul with three seconds remaining and hit both free throws to tie the game, but the Lady Hawks were not able to get off a final shot for the win.

The Lady Hawks never got their offense going in the overtime, going 0-for-4 from the field and 2-for-6 from the free throw line as the Jennies outscored the visitors, 10-2, in the extra period.

Bettencourt led the Lady Hawks with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists. She connected on three 3-pointers. Edom scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half, knocking down four threes. Cunningham scored in double figures with 10 points, four assists and four rebounds. Junior forward Tori Kuhn (Quincy, Ill./QND/Lindenwood) had eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
