Hawks Sweep Weekend with 3-0 Win over Pumas

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team completed the weekend sweep in dominating fashion with a 3-0 sweep over Saint Joseph's College on Sunday (Nov. 2).  QU hit .290 in the match with 41 kills and 13 team blocks.  SJC hit .054 with 27 kills and 22 errors.

The Hawks (9-17, 5-11 GLVC) were high off a big win last night against the University of Indianapolis (3-1) and came out with a lot of energy in the first set.  The Pumas (9-17, 3-13 GLVC) could not match the intensity early and fell behind 21-10.  After an SJC timeout, the Pumas started a comeback and pulled to within four points at 24-20.  Carly Schmitt ended the first set with a kill to win 25-20.

The Pumas started the second set with some fire and took a 13-8 lead.  The Hawks came all the way back to take a 19-18 lead.  That comeback included three blocks, three kills by Bekah Raebel, and two kills from Emily Lindemulder.  The Pumas took back the lead at 23-22.  QU answered with two points to take back the lead.  SJC tied the set at 24-24, but Samantha Haegele and Gianna Lincoln scored back-to-back kills to win the second set 26-24.

The third set was all Quincy as they recorded runs of eight points and five points.  The Hawks had a 23-9 lead before SJC recorded two kills.  Gianna Lincoln put home two kills for the final two Hawks' points to win the set 25-12 and sweep the match.  The Hawks hit .458 in the third set.

Bekah Raebel turned in another impressive performance leading the Hawks with 12 kills and four total blocks.  Gianna Lincoln came off the bench the first and second set before starting the thirds set.  Lincoln was second on the the team with 10 kills.  Miranda Rodriguez led the Hawks with 22 assists and 13 digs.  Jessica Licurgo was a part of seven blocks.  

The Hawks welcome the University of Missouri-St. Louis to Pepsi Arena on Friday (Nov. 7).  The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.  It is "Alumni Night" and all returning Hawks are welcomed to play in the "Alumni Game" on Saturday morning.
