Lady Hawks Upended at William Jewell, 2-1

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team scored a late goal to put pressure on William Jewell, but the Lady Hawks fell to the Cardinals, 2-1, on Sunday (Oct. 5) afternoon in Liberty, Mo.
 
The teams went into halftime scoreless, though the Lady Hawks (6-4-1, 5-2-1 GLVC) had a 9-4 edge in shots and had much of the first-half possession.
 
The Cardinals (5-2-3, 4-2-2 GLVC) got an early goal in the second half as Madison Allhouse scored from the right wing to give WJC a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute. Lea Maxwell was credited with the assist.
 
Just five minutes later, William Jewell made it 2-0 as Jade Gifford's free kick nicked off the hands of freshman goalkeeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) and into the net.
 
The Lady Hawks got a goal back in the 84th minute as junior defender Taylor Lindwedel (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) sent freshman midfielder Natalie Quisenberry (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) on a breakaway and the rookie slotted home her first career goal to cut the Cardinals' lead in half.
 
One minute later, sophomore forward Caroline Basler (Pevely, Mo./St. Pius X) had her shot got at an equalizer go wide. The Lady Hawks also had a corner kick in the 88th minute, but could not come up with the tying goal.
 
Swanson had four saves for the Lady Hawks, while counterpart Jordan Lewis finished with five stops. The Lady Hawks had a 12-8 advantage in shots and the teams were even in corner kicks, 2-2.
 
Quincy will return to Legends Stadium on Friday (Oct. 10) when it plays host to Indianapolis. The Greyhounds (3-6-2, 2-4-2 GLVC) are riding a two-game winning streak after a rough start to the season.
