Hawks Test No. 23 Truman State

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team fell to No. 23 Truman State University in a hard fought match on Tuesday night (Oct. 28).  QU gave TSU a scare in the first set, but the Bulldogs escaped with a 26-24 win.  The Hawks were not phased and took an impressive second set win, 25-19.  The Bulldogs regrouped to take the next two sets and escape Pepsi Arena with their 20th straight win.

The Hawks (8-17, 3-11 GLVC) six straight points to take an 8-4 lead in the first set and force a Truman (22-2, 14-0 GLVC) timeout.  QU extended their lead to six points at 19-13 before the Bulldogs answered with three straight points to force a QU timeout.  Truman eventually took the lead at 23-22.  The Hawks traded points twice, but the Bulldogs scored the final two points to win the first set 26-24.

The Hawks kept up the energy in the second set by exploding to a 12-6 lead with two four-point rallies.  The Hawks expanded their lead to 19-12 and coasted to a 25-19 set two win.  Bekah Raebel connected on six kills in the second set for the Hawks.  

After the intermission, the Bulldogs were able to compose themselves and take the third set 25-13.

Truman followed with a 25-14 fourth set win to take the match 3-1.

The Hawks were led by Samantha Haegele with 16 kills.  Bekah Raebel finished with 14 kills and a .367 hitting percentage.  Miranda Rodriguez was the main setter with 29 assists for QU.  Sommer Holder was all over the court with 34 digs to move into sole possession of fourth place on the career digs list.  She passed Chris Shimkus (1998-2001) and now has 1,345 career digs.  

The Hawks will play host to the University of Indianapolis Saturday evening (Nov. 1) in Pepsi Arena.  The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
