Hawks Stun Screaming Eagles in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team won their fourth match in a row for the first time since 2012.  QU went on the road to upset the University of Southern Indiana 3-1.  The Hawks hit .261 in the match with 10 team blocks.  USI hit .105 in the match with 26 attacking errors.

The first set was tight.  The Hawks (8-15, 3-9 GLVC) were back and forth with the Screaming Eagles (16-7, 6-6 GLVC) well into the first stanza.  With the game tied at 24-24, Emily Lindemulder recorded a kill and USI committed a ball handling error off a Sommer Holder serve to give the Hawks the 26-24 first set win.

Lindemulder had five kills including the last three kills for the Hawks in the first set.  The Hawk net presence recorded three blocks in the first set win.  QU hit .296 in the first set.

It was all QU in the second set.  Bekah Raebel came out of the gate with three straight kills to make the score 4-1 in favor of QU early.  The Hawks scored the final four points of the set to win 25-15.  QU recorded four blocks in the second set.  Raebel had five kills in the set.  QU hit .324 in the second set.

The Hawks fell behind by four points in the third set before tying the match at 22-22.  After trading points until the match was knotted at 25-25, the Screaming Eagles capitalized on a QU service error and finished with a kill to win the third set 27-25.  

The Hawks smothered any chance of a Screaming Eagles' comeback when they jumped out to a 14-6 fourth set lead thanks to two aces served up by Emily Lindemulder.  QU took a 23-11 lead after four straight points including a kill by Briann Joslin.  Joslin finished off the match a few plays later with a kill to help the Hawks to a 25-15 fourth set win.  The Hawks hit .231 in the final set.  

The Hawks were led by Emily Lindemulder with 14 kills, two aces, and six blocks.  Bekah Raebel recorded 13 kills.  Miranda Rodriguez led the offense with 26 assists and added 15 digs.  Sommer Holder led the Hawk defense with 17 digs.  

The Hawks look to continue their winning streak in Louisville, Ky. tomorrow (Oct. 26) against Bellarmine University.  The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. ET.
