Samuel Thomas was named head coach for the Quincy University women's soccer program on Monday, December 16th.
Thomas comes to Quincy after spending two years as an assistant coach at Old Dominion University.

While on staff at ODU, the Monarchs went 18-11-8. Thomas helped the team to its best defensive year in program history in 2018, only allowing 16 goals. The Monarchs also had their highest conference finish that season since joining C-USA in 2013. The following season, the Monarchs posted their best record in the past 11 years.

Prior to ODU, Thomas spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Thomas helped guide the Cougars through its most successful NCAA Division I season in 2016. He mentored Juli Rossi that season who was tabbed TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Player of the Week following her performance in an upset of second seed Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Under Thomas in 2015, goalkeeper Jen Pelley broke the program shutout record, achieving 29 clean sheets.

Thomas has previous head coaching experience at Eastern Oregon University. During his lone season (2014) with the Mountaineers, Thomas recorded the fewest losses and second-highest win percentage of any first-year head coach in program history. He led two players to All-Conference and Academic All-Region selections.

Thomas played his college soccer at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, where he received his bachelor’s degree in graphic design. He was a First Team All-Region goalkeeper in 2009, the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2010, and an All-Conference goalkeeper all four years.
In October of 2020, Thomas was awarded recognition to the SLIAC All-Decade Team from 2010-2019 for his outstanding play at Principia.
