2025-26 (Redshirt Sophomore): Smith continued to gain experience for the Hawks during the 2025-26 season, finishing with a 1-10 overall record and a .091 win percentage. His lone victory of the year came by fall.

2024-25 (Redshirt Freshman): Smith made his Quincy debut during the 2024-25 season, finishing with a 2-12 overall record and a .143 win percentage. He did not see dual action during the year, with both of his victories coming by fall.

Smith made his debut with the Hawks at the Luther Hill Invitational (11/2/24). He later picked up the first win of his Quincy career at the Service Salute Open (11/9/24).

Personal: Smith is from Osceola, Indiana, where he graduated from Penn High School and competed for the Kingsmen. During his high school career, James earned Academic All-State honors and was an Indiana High School State Qualifier.

Before transferring to Quincy, Smith spent the 2021-22 season at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he redshirted as a member of the men’s wrestling team.

James is the son of Russell Smith and Pattie Hummer and has two siblings, Robert and Amber. Outside of wrestling, he enjoys playing video games and cheering for the Chicago White Sox. His favorite athlete is Michael Jordan, and he is passionate about helping people with disabilities.
