Cathy Monroe begins her third season as the head coach of the Hawks in 2025 as the tenth softball head coach. Monroe comes to Quincy after a seven-year stint at GLVC foe Missouri S&T.Â
While leading the Miner program, she had three 20-win seasons. Monroe has also coached six all-GLVC selections in her time in Rolla. During the 2022 season, she kept the Miners in contention for a GLVC tournament spot until the final day of the regular season. On March 14, 2022, she collected her 100th head coaching win in a 6-3 decision over the William Jewell Cardinals. From the 2021 season to 2022, her team made a significant jump in runs scored and improvement as a pitching staff.
Prior to her time at Missouri S&T, Monroe had an 11-year stint as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Truman State University. She spent her final two seasons with the Bulldogs as the program's associate head coach. While at Truman, Monroe served as the acting head coach for the Bulldogs for an eight-game stretch during the early stages of the 2015 season and led them to a 7-1 record in those contests. Truman finished the 2015 campaign with a record of 33-16, including a 21-7 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and made its second straight trip to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional.
In Truman's first two seasons in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Bulldogs posted a record of 76-29 and a 51-13 mark in conference play. Monroe was involved in all facets of the Bulldog program, including the team's strength program and skill development. She worked primarily with the outfielders on the defensive side and with the entire team offensively, where it finished with a .305 team batting average, 50 home runs and 253 runs scored in 49 games in 2015. The Bulldogs hit better than .300 as a team in each of the last four seasons she spent on the staff.
Before going back to her alma mater, she spent three seasons as the head coach of the junior varsity team at Lutheran High School (St. Louis, Mo.).Â
Monroe is a graduate of Truman State University and attained her bachelor's degree in agricultural science in 2002. During her four years with the Bulldogs, Monroe made it to four NCAA tournaments and was team captain her senior year.Â
