Doug Savage returns for his second season at the helm of the Hawks’ track and field team in 2024.

Savage was previously the head coach for the cross country and track and field teams at Culver-Stockton College from 2019-2023.

He had another stint with the Wildcats from 2010-2014 where he held multiple roles. In 2011, Savage served as the meet coordinator for the Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Culver-Stockton. He also coached Logan Holmer to be the HAAC outdoor champion in the high jump the following year.

Prior to Culver Stockton, Savage was the head track and field coach at Quincy University where he coached the men’s shot put champion at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship in 2001. Savage also worked as an assistant football coach for the Hawks at the turn of the century, coaching the offensive line, defensive backs, and running backs during his tenure.

Savage brings ample experience with him to Quincy, including 114 all-conference honors, nine NAIA National Qualifiers, and an NAIA National Runner-up in the high jump. Savage has conditioned athletes to breaking 33 school records during his tenure.

Savage is a native of Winchester, Illinois, and was a three-sport letterwinner at Winchester High School. He then attended Ottawa University (Kan.) where he participated in cross country, football, and track and field. He earned Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference honors in track his senior season after finishing second in both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health from Ottawa in 1989, Savage coached at multiple secondary schools before his hiring as an assistant football coach at Quincy University in 1997.
