Personal: Gardner is from Wentzville, Missouri, and attended Christian Brothers College High School, where he competed for the Cadets. He is the son of Randy and Angela Gardner and has two siblings, Nash and Blake. His father, Randy, played collegiate soccer at Lindenwood and Fontbonne from 1987-91.

Gardner was a member of the National Honor Society and served as a CBC Student Ambassador. He was named to the Week 3 STL Best XI during his high school career and started every game as a senior, helping record eight shutouts.

Away from the field, Gardner enjoys playing soccer, lifting weights, watching sports, golfing, hanging out with friends, working, and playing video games. His favorite athletes include Marc Guehi, Sergio Ramos, Patrick Mahomes, Rodri, Virgil van Dijk, Joao Gvardiol, and Cristiano Ronaldo, while his favorite teams are Manchester City, the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals, and St. Louis Blues.
