Joe Bettasso

Joe Bettasso comes to Quincy University after a successful tenure at McPherson College iin Kansas.  During his two-year tenure as head coach, Bettasso was 14-8 overall, with a 13-5 record in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. He was named AFCA Regional Coach of the Year and KCAC Coach of the Year following the 2010 season in which he guided McPherson to its first conference championship since 1952 and its second consecutive appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series.  In addition to the league title, McPherson made its second appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series.

Prior to becoming head coach, Bettasso served as defensive coordinator and recruiting
coordinator at McPherson from 2007 to 2009. During his three seasons as the defensive
coordinator, Coach Bettasso turned around a defense that ranked no better than fifth before his arrival into a unit that ranked amongst the top 30 nationally in rushing defense per game, opponent third down conversion, sacks, total defense per game and scoring defense per game.

As a recruiter, Bettasso has been a key part of the growth and retention of the McPherson College football program. Since 2006, the program’s squad size had increased from 80 to100 student-athletes in 2009. Prior to McPherson College, Bettasso spent one season as a defensive backs coach at his alma mater Missouri Southern State University.  A native of Joplin, Mo., Bettasso played defensive back and was a three-year starter, he lettered four seasons under the direction of former Lions coach Bill Cooke and the late John Ware.
