Quincy University Hawks

The Hawks wasted little time making their presence felt, finding the back of the net just five minutes into the match. Mathias Bringedal put Quincy on the board after receiving a pass from Josh Nwosu, giving the Hawks an early 1-0 advantage. The quick start set the tone for a Quincy attack that continued to create opportunities throughout the opening half.

Quincy doubled its lead in the 25th minute when Leo Cann put one away off an assist from Bringedal. The goal gave the Hawks a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime and provided an important cushion heading into the second half.

The two goals were particularly important because Quincy was able to establish control early and then rely on its defense to protect the advantage over the final 45 minutes. McKendree continued to create chances after halftime, but the Hawks never allowed the Bearcats to find a way through.

Cann was one of Quincy's most active attacking players throughout the night, finishing with a team-high seven shots and three shots on goal. His goal in the 25th minute capped a strong first-half performance and gave the Hawks the breathing room they needed.

Bringedal also played a major role in the victory. In addition to scoring Quincy's opening goal, he assisted on Cann's goal to finish the night with three points. He recorded two shots, both of which were on target.

Nwosu also contributed offensively, assisting on the opening goal and putting one of his own shots on frame. The Hawks received contributions throughout the lineup as Quincy finished with 18 total shots, including seven on goal.

While the offense established the lead, Quincy's defense and goalkeeper Jake Offerman made sure it stayed there. Offerman played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves to earn the shutout. McKendree managed just two shots on target throughout the match, a strong indication of the defensive effort.

McKendree did have some dangerous moments, including a shot from Santiago Brisco that struck the woodwork early in the first half and another attempt from Dusan Dordevic that hit the crossbar in the second half. The Bearcats also finished with 10 total shots, but Quincy consistently limited the quality of their opportunities.

The Hawks continued to pressure McKendree throughout the second half, recording 10 shots after halftime. Quincy also held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks and finished the night with 18 shots compared to McKendree's 10.

For Quincy, the result is more than just another win. It marks the Hawks' first conference victory of the season and gives them an important three points to begin their GLVC schedule.

Doing so on the road makes the result even more significant. Quincy entered Leemon Field facing a McKendree team determined to protect its home field, but the Hawks' early offensive punch and disciplined defensive effort proved to be the difference.

The Hawks now return home with confidence after opening conference play with a statement road victory. Two first-half goals, a clean sheet and contributions from both sides of the ball gave Quincy exactly the kind of start it was looking for as the conference season gets underway. They will welcome the University of Idianapolis on Wednesday, September 9th, at 2:30 PM.
