ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Quincy University men's soccer team remained unbeaten in GLVC play Wednesday night, battling Missouri-St. Louis to a 0-0 draw at Don Dallas Field.
The scoreless result marked Quincy's second consecutive 0-0 draw and third over its last four matches. The Hawks moved to 5-1-5 overall and 4-0-4 in GLVC play, while UMSL moved to 3-4-2 overall and 2-3-2 in conference action.
Neither side generated much offensively during the opening 45 minutes. UMSL held a slight 3-2 advantage in shots, but neither team put an attempt on goal.
Mathias Bringedal registered Quincy's first shot in the 26th minute before
Carter Venvertloh added another in the 34th.
The Hawks created their best opportunity shortly after halftime.
Leo Cann got an attempt away in the 47th minute before
Ryan Myatt put Quincy's lone shot on goal of the match on frame at the 52:10 mark, forcing a save from UMSL goalkeeper Will Winkler.
UMSL began to generate more pressure as the second half progressed, but the Quincy defense continued to keep the Tritons from finding a breakthrough.
Jake Offerman was called upon in the 85th minute, turning away Isaac Valverde's attempt for his lone save of the night.
Quincy made one final push in the closing minutes. Bringedal recorded an attempt in the 90th minute, and the Hawks earned a corner moments later, but neither side could find the winner before the final whistle.
The Hawks finished with seven shots, tying their fewest in a match this season, while their one shot on goal was a season low. UMSL held an 11-7 advantage in total shots, but each side managed just one attempt on target. The Tritons also held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Offerman played all 90 minutes in goal to help Quincy secure another clean sheet, his sixth of the season, making one save in the scoreless draw.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, October 3, when they travel to Springfield, Missouri, for a matchup with No. 10 Drury University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 PM from Lake Country Soccer Field.
