Hawks Fall to No. 10 Maryville on the Road

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Quincy University women's lacrosse team fell to No. 10 Maryville University 20-2 on Friday afternoon in GLVC action. The Hawks were held to a season-low two goals and just nine shots in the loss.

Maryville controlled the opening quarter, scoring four times while holding Quincy scoreless. The Hawks had opportunities from Alaina Wilkinson, Anni Moran, and Amelia Ham, but were unable to find the back of the net. Ava Condos kept Quincy within striking distance early with multiple saves in goal.

The Saints added five goals in the opening five minutes of the second quarter to stretch the lead to 9-0. Quincy finally got on the board at the 5:49 mark when Wilkinson converted a free-position opportunity to cut the deficit to 9-1. Maryville answered with three more goals before halftime to take a 12-1 lead into the break.

Maryville continued to pull away in the third quarter, scoring four more times while holding the Hawks scoreless. Quincy managed just one shot in the period and continued to struggle to sustain offensive possession.

The Saints added three quick goals in the opening four minutes of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 19-1. Quincy found its second goal of the afternoon when Raena Crews scored a man-up goal with 7:00 remaining. Maryville added one final late goal to close out the 20-2 result.

The Hawks were limited to a season-low nine shots and six shots on goal, while Maryville finished with 50 shots, the most Quincy has allowed this season. The Saints also held a 24-11 advantage in ground balls and forced Quincy into 24 turnovers, the second most in a game this season. Quincy finished just 8-for-17 on clears and was outdrawn 13-9.

Wilkinson and Crews scored the two Quincy goals. Amelia Ham led the Hawks with two shots, while Emily Leal controlled five draws and Mikenna Ham added three draw controls, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls. Ava Condos finished with 12 saves in goal despite facing 27 shots on target.

The Hawks will be back in action on Sunday, April 19, when they travel to Lebanon, Illinois to take on the McKendree University at Leemon Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
